Free Homestead Exemption Help.
If you own and live in your Texas home, a homestead exemption can lower your property taxes. Filing is free with your county appraisal district, and AVYRO will walk you through it at no cost.
Who qualifies
You own and live there
You own the home and it is your principal residence. You attach a copy of your Texas driver's license or state ID showing the home's address.
Age 65+ or disabled
An additional $60,000 school exemption, plus any local options. A surviving spouse 55 or older may keep a deceased spouse's 65+ exemption.
Local extras
School districts must exempt $140,000 of your home's value. Some cities, counties and other taxing units offer extra local exemptions.

Homestead FAQ
Does it cost anything to file?
No. Filing a homestead exemption with your county appraisal district is free. Nobody needs to charge you to file it, and AVYRO's help is free too.
When should I file?
Generally between Jan. 1 and April 30 of the year you want the exemption. Late applications can generally be filed up to two years after the deadline.
Where do I send the form?
To your county appraisal district (for example HCAD, MCAD or WCAD), not the Texas Comptroller. Many districts also offer online filing.
Do I need to reapply every year?
Once approved, you usually don't need to reapply each year. Your appraisal district may ask you to confirm your eligibility.
What documents will I need?
A copy of your Texas driver's license or state ID showing the home's address. Send it only to your appraisal district. AVYRO will never ask for your Social Security or driver's license number through this site.

Hurricane & hail prep checklist
- Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to Nov. 30. Review your coverage before it starts.
- Check your wind/hail deductible (often a percentage of your home's value) and whether you have flood coverage. Standard home policies don't cover flood, and new flood policies usually have a 30-day wait.
- Take photos or video of every room and your belongings now.
- Keep policy numbers and your insurer's claim line in your phone and in a go-bag.
- After a storm, photograph damage, make temporary repairs to prevent more damage, keep receipts, and report the claim quickly.

Review my home coverage2027 tax season key dates
- Jan. 15, 2027: 4th-quarter 2026 estimated tax payment due (if you make estimated payments).
- April 15, 2027: deadline to file your 2026 return and pay any tax owed, per the IRS 2027 Publication 509 draft.
- Oct. 15, 2027: filing deadline if you requested an extension (Form 4868). An extension gives you more time to file, not to pay.
- The IRS hasn't announced the date it will start accepting 2026 returns yet. It's usually late January.
- Texas has no state personal income tax.
What to do after a car accident
- Check for injuries and call 911 if anyone is hurt. Move to safety if you can.
- Call the police and get the report number.
- Exchange names, phone numbers, insurance companies and policy numbers, and license plate numbers.
- Take photos of the vehicles, the scene, and any injuries. Write down names and phone numbers of witnesses.
- Don't admit fault or agree to a settlement at the scene.
- Report the claim to your insurer as soon as you can.

Common questions.
Straight answers before you pick up the phone.
What do I need to get started?
Just a few basics about what you want to insure or file, and a phone number where we can reach you. Most people finish the online questions in a couple of minutes, and we handle the rest on a call.
You never need to enter a Social Security number or driver's license number on this website.
What happens after I submit a request?
An AVYRO team member reviews what you shared and contacts you the way you asked, whether that is a phone call, text, or email. We are open every day from 8 AM to 8 PM Houston time.
If you would rather not wait, use the Call me right away button or call (832) 304-1784 and we can start right then.
Does it cost anything to request a quote?
Requesting an insurance quote does not cost anything and does not obligate you to buy. For tax preparation, ask our team about pricing for your situation when we talk.
Can AVYRO guarantee a price or coverage?
No. Final rates and eligibility are set by each insurance company after it reviews your details, and they can change as new information comes in. We help you understand your options and explain the differences in plain language.
Which insurance companies can AVYRO work with?
We can help you with many well-known insurance companies. Which ones are available to you depends on your state, your driving record or property, and the coverage you want, so we look at what fits your situation instead of guessing.
I already have insurance. Can I still switch?
Yes. Please do not cancel your current policy until your new coverage is confirmed in writing and has a start date. That way you avoid a gap in coverage, which can cause problems and sometimes higher costs later.
Does bundling home and auto always save money?
Not always. Many companies offer a multi-policy discount, but the amount varies, and sometimes two separate companies cost less than one bundle. We look at both ways so you can see the difference.
Will requesting a quote affect my credit?
Our online request form does not ask for your Social Security number and does not run your credit. Insurance companies may use information such as driving records or property details when they set a final price, and we will explain what to expect when we talk.
Do you prepare business tax returns as well as personal ones?
You can tell us whether you need a personal return, a business return, or both when you start a tax request. The type of business you have, such as a sole proprietorship, LLC, or corporation, helps decide what needs to be filed, and our team will walk you through it.
When should I start my taxes, and what if I miss the deadline?
Most individual returns are due in mid-April. You can get started as soon as you have your W-2s and 1099s, and starting early leaves time to fix any problems. If you need more time, an extension can give you extra time to file, but it generally does not give you extra time to pay what you owe.
How should I share tax documents?
Please do not email Social Security numbers or full tax returns, and do not text photos of them. Our team will give you a secure way to share your documents when it is time.
Can I just talk to a person?
Absolutely. Call (832) 304-1784 any day between 8 AM and 8 PM, or book an appointment by phone, video, or in person. The online questions are only there to save you time on the call.
